This is the working file

The middle is melting.

Everything’s sharpening into edges, hardening into systems, bursting into noise. The stuff that’s soft and slow and human gets squeezed out first, because it doesn’t benchmark well, it doesn’t scale, and it’s hard to put on a dashboard.

I’m choosing that soft middle on purpose.

Not out of nostalgia, and not to be difficult. It’s a bet. My read on this moment is that as everyone narrows into the machine, the human stuff gets more valuable, not less. Synthesis across unrelated fields. Lived experience. Actually being able to connect with people. The rarer that gets, the more it’s worth.

How I actually work

I run my life on three beats, in this order.

Live first. Experiences, conversations, the bike ride, the book, the late night session where something finally clicks. The raw material. You can’t fake having lived.

Build second. Take what the living turned up and make something out of it. A business, a tool, an essay, a drawing. Right now that’s two things for me: Out Sauce, a paraplanning practice I run with my wife where the craft is the whole point, and gooey, a creative studio that’s really a longer experiment in how to live and work in this era.

Document third. Which is this. The site you’re on.

The order matters, and getting it backwards is the trap I’m most wary of. It’s easy for building season to quietly become permanent, every build just unlocking the next one while the life it was all supposed to serve keeps getting put off. Live first is how I push back on that. Document third is how I stay honest about it.

What this site is

This is the working file. Not a portfolio, not a finished statement of who I am. A notebook I’m keeping in public, and one I’ll keep writing in.

So it’s allowed to be half-baked. Things here are in progress. Some of it I’ll probably contradict in six months, and I’ll leave the old version up when I do. Over time you’ll find thoughts caught before they fade, longer writing that earned the long form, the workshop of what I actually built and broke, things I made just because making is the point, and conversations with people who think at scale and think differently.

The quiet part

I’ll say the real ambition out loud, because the working file is the place for it. I’ve spent a long time as a builder and a remixer, good at taking what already exists and recombining it. What I’m trying to do now is live a life rich enough to make something remarkable. The remixer becoming the originator. Out loud, on purpose, while it’s still forming.
